During pregnancy the bust can be the first thing that starts to expand, often before the tummy starts to show. As each breast can become between 300 - 500g heavier during pregnancy, it is important to ensure that they are adequately supported to avoid deformation and stretch marks and to remove tension in the neck and shoulders. Specialist maternity bras are designed to expand with the breasts, ensuring support whilst they are growing, and are made from fabrics selected for comfort to avoid irritating sensitive breast with wide softly padded straps to ease strain on the neck and shoulders. You should invest in a good quality maternity bra as soon as your existing bras no longer fit or from the 4th month if this is sooner.

Nursing bras should not be bought until the beginning of the 8th month of pregnancy as the breasts have usually stopped growing by then. Ideally you wait until you are around 38 weeks as this is when the baby starts to move lower in the pelvis and allows a more accurate fit of the under-bust band. A functional, well designed nursing bra is necessary to maintain the shape and support of the bust during the breastfeeding period. Our bras are made from skin-kind materials as breast and nipples can be extra sensitive at this time. Nursing bras should also provide easy and comfortable access to the breast for Mum and baby - a bra that puts pressure on the breast during feeding can cause blocked glands, leading potentially to Mastitis.
